The Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is pleased to announce the Women of Waste Leadership Breakfast is being held on Wednesday 23 October 2019 at Kirribilli Club. This event is designed to recognise women who are driving change in industry, and in doing so, are breaking down barriers and creating new career prospects for the next generation.

RONNI KAHN AO
CEO & Founder, OzHarvest

Driven by a determination to find purpose in her life, the simple act of rescuing good food and delivering it to people in need quickly caught on, and in 2004 OzHarvest was born.

Ronni Kahn is renowned for her boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm and not taking no for an answer! Her ability to inspire and motivate everyone she meets has seen OzHarvest grow from humble beginnings to become Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. Her journey in the fight against food waste became the feature of an independent film Food Fighter and in 2019 she was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia.

Environmental Manager, Bingo Industries

Ros has over 25 years’ experience in environmental and management roles in local government, retail, manufacturing and consulting in Australia/ New Zealand, North America, Europe and Asia. She started her career in local government as an Environmental Health and Building Surveyor and gained experience in health and food surveillance, waste management, environment protection and building approvals at two of Sydney’s larger councils – Sutherland Shire and Liverpool City.

Ros was Director Environmental Management for both McDonald’s Asia Pacific Middle East Africa and Havi Global Solutions for 13 years and Group General Manager Environment and Sustainability at Visy Industries for 3. She has an extensive background in strategy, regulatory compliance, risk management, market development for recovered resources, product stewardship, environmental management systems and community consultation across a broad range of environmental issues and is now consulting to local and state government agencies and the private sector.

Ros has served as Director on the Board of Responsible Forest Management Australia (FSC), Chair of the Buy Recycled Business Alliance of Australia and participated in various government agency and business panels including the NSW State Waste Advisory Council, South Australian Litter Task force, Sydney Water Trade Waste Customer Forum and the Packaging Stewardship Forum. 


     

  DR PATRICIA CHAMBERLAIN
Coordinator Waste Avoidance & Resource Recovery, Bayside Council

For the past 18 years, Patricia has worked with industry and government to improve their environmental performance, particularly in relation to waste avoidance and resource recovery. 

As Coordinator Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery for Bayside Council, Patricia works with the Waste & Cleansing Services team to research, develop and implement strategies, policies, procedures and programs that improve resource recovery and community waste behaviour.  This includes the delivery of Council’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (WARR) strategy.  The WARR strategy programs deliver leading economic, social and sustainable solutions for the Bayside community, visitors and beyond.

Prior to joining Bayside Council, Patricia worked for waste and resource recovery consultancy, C4ES, for 16 years. During this time she held the positions of Deputy Chair (2012-2016) and Secretary (2002-2012) of WMAA’s Resource and Energy Recovery (RER)/Energy from Waste Division. She was a member of the NSW EPA Energy from Waste Consultative Committee from 2011-2013 which was formed to provide input on the NSW Energy from Waste Policy Statement. She was nominated as part of the WMAA Member recognition program for “tireless service to the NSW RER Working Group.”

Patricia’s PhD work involved researching methods for reducing emissions from coal combustion. Research was conducted at CSIRO, Division of Energy Technology.
