Webinar | Creating a battery product stewardship scheme

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia invites members to join us online on Tuesday, 15 June 2021 to discuss the Battery Stewardship Council's national scheme.

Batteries – they are a source of valuable resources that can be recycled an indefinite number of times but when they are not, they are the source of pollution and devastating landfill and truck fires. Building national pathways to properly collect and recycle batteries is imperative and this vision will soon be realised.

In April 2021, the federal government announced a $1 million grant for the development and implementation of the Battery Stewardship Council’s (BSC) voluntary battery stewardship scheme; an offering that is welcomed and comes on the heels of the ACCC’s authorisation of the scheme at the end of 2020.

Our essential waste and resource recovery industry, being the recipients of end-of-life batteries across parts of the supply chain, can play a significant role in ensuring that the scheme achieves the highest levels of success, through collaboration, forging partnerships, processing and recycling innovation, and more.

In this free members-only webinar BSC CEO Libby Chaplin will uncover all we need to know about the scheme in order to effectively contribute, including:

How the proposed scheme will work and its key players.
Timelines and targets.
The batteries that will be included.
Collection and recycling pathways.
The WARR sector’s role in the scheme.
