Senator Peter Whish-Wilson entered the Australian Senate in 2012. As a lifelong passionate surfer, Peter has developed a deep and abiding passion for the ocean and he was the first parliamentarian to raise the dangers of plastic pollution in the ocean in the Senate, which he did in 2013. As the long-standing Australian Greens spokesperson for Waste & Recycling, he has initiated and chaired a number of ground-breaking Senate inquiries to seek solutions to waste issues, including:

Peter is a fierce advocate for the environment and climate and understands the key role the waste and resource recovery sector will play in the energy transition. He continues to seek parliamentary pathways to address waste issues and build a future free from waste. He is currently chairing the Senate Environment and Communications Committee’s inquiry into waste reduction and recycling policies.
