CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

 

The 2022 WARR SA Conference will be held in-person from the 8-9 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide SA, and you are invited to get involved.  The theme of this year’s conference is ‘where the rubber hits the road’.

SA has historically led the nation on recycling and resource recovery – its initiatives and programs have driven consistent growth in resource recovery and innovation in policy. However, we need a seismic shift to get to a circular economy and a real change in behaviour to prioritise recycled products and procurement across government, industry and the community.  We think 2022 is the time for the rubber to hit the road, for the state to take that next step in its journey and move from ambition to action, so we can shift the dial in these areas and more.  The 2022 conference will provide a forum to share knowledge and discuss the opportunities, pathways and models that will drive SA forward. 

The program committee is now calling for abstracts on the following topics: 

• The impact of federal activities including RMF, export bans, regulation
• What is “good policy”, e.g EPR (mandated or not?) and where are the gaps (in both SA, and nationally?) 
• Circular economy, including international perspectives. What does it look like beyond strategy? What do people outside of the WARR sector want/need from us?
• Circular metrics
• The role of our sector in carbon abatement, scope 3 emissions and supply chain
• Resource efficiency - what does this mean, and how do we do it in WARR?
• Financial considerations in driving change 
• The hierarchy – is it implicit in all we are doing?
• Driving behaviour change – the role of education and engagement, gaining social license, capacity building
• Product streams being successfully recycled and the investment that comes with this
• Green procurement / buying recycled
• Mandated recycled content - does this work? Should we be pushing for it?
• Product stewardship schemes – e.g. textiles, batteries (what is happening here and what is working well elsewhere)
• E-waste
• The future of plastic
• Organics, including food and FOGO
• Circularity in the built environment
• Recovering C+I waste
• Regional waste and resource recovery education, infrastructure, and management
• Disaster waste management
• Data – to drive better outcomes and strategies

All abstract submissions will be presented to the committee for review and final selection.  Abstracts received outside of the topics listed may be considered and additional abstracts may be sought at the discretion of the committee.
