Workshop | Social licence to operate (SLO)

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association invites you to join us in Mission Beach, Queensland on Thursday, 17 November 2022 for a deep dive into creating and maintaining social licence to operate (SLO).

The concept of social licence to operate (SLO) has been gaining a lot of airtime of late.  It's not a new concept, put simply it means being a “good neighbour”, but it's something we all want, and all should be.  What is perhaps new however is the emphasis that regulators and the community have been placing on this concept in recent years, and the commensurate challenge that this places on our industry (and others) to demonstrate that we do have in fact have this licence.  And how can something that is possibly subjective, be both demonstrated, measured, and maintained?

Following the release of it's social licence to operate toolkit WMRR is again working with Talis Consultants to offer a workshop which will deep dive into the toolkit and provide practical ways that the waste and resource recovery industry can establish and maintain a SLO.  The workshop defines the guiding principles that will help you understand the concept of SLO, how it is established and how you maintain it to help ensure that:

  • Your project or operating facility can be financially viable over its lifetime
  • Your local community accepts you
  • The broader community understands the societal value of the project or facility, and the waste and resource recovery industry more broadly, and
  • Regulators can have confidence in your stakeholder relationships.
  • Join us to discuss and understand the contents of the toolkit and how it can be of assistance to you and your company.

The workshop is just one event to look forward to on the day; the WMRR Queensland Branch will then host its end-of-year networking function (Christmas drinks) from 5:00-6:30pm at the venue, and all are invited.

Places are strictly limited so register today to secure your spot.
