Webinar | A snapshot on tyres

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) and Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) invite you to join us online at 9am (AEST) on Thursday, 10 August 2023 to discuss all things tyre stewardship.

Australia on average generates over 450,000 tonnes of used tyres annually, however this is on the rise post pandemic lockdowns with generation estimates in 2021-22 reaching over 500,000 tonnes.

Over the same period national tyre recovery rates have stalled under 70%, sitting at 64% in 2021-22, the lowest levels in years. Low recovery for off-the-road (OTR) tyres is the major factor for Australia’s stalling recovery, with little evidence to suggest this is going to change anytime soon.

Australia’s unrecovered automotive tyres are the equivalent of 5.7 million car tyres annually, which is more than one tyre for each person in Queensland. Like mattresses, unrecovered tyres are problematic due to their size and the difficulty of retrieving them from hard to access creek beds or parklands.

In this webinar hear from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and WA's Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), along with product stewardship schemes from around the globe on how they’re addressing tyres:

  • Rob Quinn - Director, Product Stewardship Policy,  DCCEEW
  • Adrian Wiley - Director, Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery, DWER
  • Lina Goodman – CEO, Tyre Stewardship Australia
  • Rosemary Sutton – Executive Director, Tire Stewardship British Columbia (Canada)
  • Federico Dossena - General Manager, Ecopneus (Italy)
  • Adele Rose – Chief Executive, Tyrewise (NZ)
