Amir has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. As a designer, project manager and researcher, he has been involved in Geosynthetic industry over the last 20 years. He is currently the chair of the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) Queensland chapter, board member of the International Geosynthetic Society (IGS) technical committee for on barriers, and member of IGS technical committee on stabilisation and reinforcement. Among others, he is also a member of the Standards Australia Technical Committee CE/032-Reinforced fill structures working group, and vice chair of WMRR's Queensland landfill working group, and a guest lecturer at Sunshine Coast University and University of Wollongong.
