ROGER JAENSCH MP

Minister for Environment


Roger grew up in Victoria, studied Geography at Monash University and worked in regional development and land use planning in outback Western Australia before moving to Tasmania in 2000 as the first employee of the Cradle Coast Authority. He was Executive Chairman of the Authority for 13 years, during which time he also served as a member of the Board of the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, and the University of Tasmania’s North West Advisory Board. 

Roger was first elected as Member for Braddon in 2014 and served as Government Whip and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Trade and Red Tape Reduction in the first Hodgman Government. Since 2018, Roger has held the Ministries of Housing, Planning, and Human Services, Community Development, Parks, Local Government, Heritage and Climate Change.

Roger was recently appointed Minister for Education, Children and Youth, and Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce, while retaining the Ministries of State Growth, Environment, and Aboriginal Affairs.  

Roger lives in Wynyard with his wife Stephanie and their three proudly Tasmanian children.
