Together, we marched on

I thought 2020 was challenging, coming off the back of a severe bushfire season into the uncertainty of a novel virus that was slowly sweeping across the world. Then, there was 2021, and while this year proved to be no less challenging than the year before, together, our essential waste and resource recovery sector powered on, and with our members’ support, so did WMRR.

It was a year of progress on the policy and regulatory front – impressive in some areas and slow in others, but progress, nonetheless.

2022 renewals now open

WMRR has commenced its 2022 membership renewal and if you are an Individual member, or the administrator of your organisation’s Corporate or Government account, you will receive an invoice with membership renewal details. This year, WMRR commemorated National Recycling Week by rolling out a campaign in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that called on readers to consider how different our world would be if we asked ourselves, “will the bin be the final destination” each time we made a purchase… Perhaps a timely message with Christmas just around the corner!

Snapshot of 2022 events + activities (some COVID-dependent)

  • Strategy planning session with the Board and State Branch Committee presidents in Q1.
  • National division, state branch committee, and state working group activities to resume in February.
  • Development of an on-the-ground training program.
  • National conferences – Energy from Waste (March) and ENVIRO (August).
  • State-focused events – WARR SA conference (November), two (2) Tasmanian WARR Forums, resumption of the popular Women of WARR leadership breakfast series in multiple states, starting in Victoria and launching in WA, Minister’s breakfasts, and more.
  • Regular webinars, including technical sessions, throughout the year.
  • WARR Industry Awards Dinner (November)
  • Partner conferences, including Waste 2022 (Coffs Conference) (May) and the WA Waste and Recycle Conference (September).
