WMRR ANNOUNCES 2025-27 NATIONAL PRESIDENT AND BOARD

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) will welcome two (2) new Directors – including a new National President – to its Board of Directors for 2025-27.

Following a call for nominations in March 2025, WMRR is excited to announce that Dr Karl Baltpurvins will be joining the Board as National President. Also joining the Board as a Nominated Director is NAWMA CEO, Mr Toby Terlet.

As a CEO led association, WMRR’s Board is focused on its governance, and includes members with a deep mix of industry knowledge, governance experience, financial, risk and legal expertise, and communications and stakeholder engagement.

Dr Baltpurvins, who is CEO of Pure Environmental, has over 25 years’ experience in the waste and resource recovery industry, including roles as the National General Manager at both Cleanaway and Toxfree. Karl is a chartered chemist with the Royal Australian Chemistry Institute and has presented as a keynote speaker at numerous conferences along with publishing an array of papers in the fields of environmental science and chemistry, waste management, contaminated site/soil management, geochemistry, wastewater treatment and environmental economics.

Mr Terlet is familiar to the WMRR Board having served on the Board previously. Toby brings over 25 years’ experience across a number of sectors including Energy from Waste, consultancy, peak organisations and now in his current role as a senior leader in South Australia’s Local Government sector.

WMRR CEO, Ms Gayle Sloan, noted the addition of the new Directors brings more diversity to the Board, particularly in terms of scientific expertise and local government knowledge.

“A great Board is one which evolves with the industry and offers strong governance leadership to ensure that we stay relevant and responsive. Both Karl and Toby bring extensive and diverse sector knowledge and previous corporate governance experience with other organisations to the WMRR Board. We continue to be in good hands.”

In welcoming the incoming directors, Ms Sloan noted the valuable and longstanding contribution made to WMRR by the outgoing National President, Mr Geoffrey Webster.

“WMRR has been fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, dedicated and enthusiastic President in Geoff for the last four (4) years. He has done an outstanding job in chairing the Board and contributing to the growing success of WMRR. His sense of humour, sharp business acumen and deep industry knowledge has been an asset, and we all thank him for his valuable contribution to our industry and in leading the WMRR Board.”

The new Board Directors will commence their terms at the forthcoming WMRR Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 24 June 2025. This year, the AGM will be hosted ahead of the Energy from Waste Conference at The Star on the Gold Coast.
