NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR WMRR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is a CEO-led, not-for-profit membership organisation. As the national peak body representing Australia’s $21 billion waste and resource recovery (WARR) industry, WMRR has more than 2,300 members from over 400 entities nationwide, including representation from business organisations, the three (3) tiers of government, universities and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) including research bodies. WMRR is governed by a Board of Directors who are responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. The Board strives to represent Australia’s broad geographic diversity, ensure representation across all industry sectors including government, and promote equality and inclusion.

This year, three (3) WMRR Board Director positions are open for nomination: 

  • National Vice President – who will be elected by WMRR members, 
  • Elected Director – who will be elected by WMRR members, and 
  • Nominated Director – who will be appointed by the Board’s Nominations Committee.  

The Board of Directors currently consists of a mix of three (3) Elected Directors (including the President and Vice President) in addition to a mix of Nominated Directors and Peak Industry Directors. WMRR Directors, with the exception of Peak Directors, serve a two (2)-year term and are eligible for re-election or re-appointment for a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms.

The WMRR Board meets for a maximum of half a day, six (6) times a year. Board positions are voluntary however reasonable travel and accommodation costs will be met.

Who we are looking for  

The composition of WMRR’s Board aims to consist of Directors who: 

  • are active WMRR participants and contributors; 
  • bring demonstrated experience in the WARR industry including (but not limited to): infrastructure investment and operations, collection, disposal, remanufacturing, recycling, resource recovery, energy recovery, community engagement and education, government and policy; 
  • reflect industry’s diverse membership, and
  • represent all of Australia to provide national coverage.

Directors are required to have an understanding of the requirements of the Corporations Act 2001 and Directors’ obligations and duties including the financial competence associated with holding the role of a Director. Directors are required to actively participate in sub-committees, providing opportunities to further develop and leverage existing skills in finance, risk, and human resources.  All Directors must accept that any state, sectional or other interests are secondary to their governance role related to the interests of the Association. 


Elected Director and Vice President – two (2) positions open for nomination
Elected Directors, including the Vice President, will be elected by members, with the outcome of the election announced at the 2026 AGM in June.  The role of Vice-President is required to chair Audit & Risk Committee meetings and will chair WMRR Board meetings when the President is unavailable – as such, those with experience and/or a deep interest in risk management are strongly encouraged to apply. Eligibility requirements, desirable criteria and the roles and responsibilities for these roles can be found on the Elected Director or Vice President nomination forms which must be submitted as part of your nomination. Nominations received will be reviewed by the Board Nominations Committee against the eligibility criteria. A membership vote will occur in April 2026 in the event that there is more than one (1) eligible candidate for each elected position.  


Nominated Director – one (1) position open for nomination  
Nominated Directors are appointed by the Board Nominations Committee through a skills-based process. The Committee prioritises candidates who fill identified skills gaps and enhance the Board’s ability to reflect the depth and diversity of the WARR sector.  Eligibility requirements and desirable criteria and can be found on this form, which must be submitted as part of your nomination. The Nominated Director will be appointed by the Board Nominations Committee ahead of the 2026 AGM.  


Lodging your nomination 
Nominations are welcome from all WMRR financial members and must be lodged by email.

All financial WMRR members may self-nominate with the endorsement of two (2) proposers who are also current financial members of WMRR.  Please note that nominees are welcome to apply for more than one (1) position, however a separate nomination must be completed for each Director position.


To submit a nomination, you will need to: 
1. Complete the appropriate nomination form – Nominated Director, Elected Director, or Vice President.  
2. Provide a 200-word summary outlining your key attributes and what you will bring to the role  
3. Provide a current CV.  


The completed documents must be emailed to [email protected] by no later than 11.59pm AEDT on Wednesday 25 March 2026. Nominations after this date and incomplete nominations will not be considered.
