BIN CLEAN BOY TO BUSINESS BUILDER

Starting in the family business Haulaway as a “bin clean and prep boy”, Jake Hilbert has since gotten his hands dirty in workshop maintenance and other operational roles. Continuing with the company by progressing into the role of sales manager, Jake has further developed his skillset by undertaking an MBA and pursuing GECA qualifications. Jake’s impact in his role, his commitment to professional development, and his internal and client relationships earned him a spot as finalist in the 2019 Young Professional of the Year Award.

Haulaway is a family-owned and -operated collections and materials handling business, which services over 3,500 clients.

In recent years, Jake has led the sales briefs which have seen Haulaway awarded both the Westgate Tunnel Project and Cross-Yarra Tunnels Project, among others. Haulaway attributes the growth in Melbourne infrastructure project contracts, with the majority now sitting with the company, to Jake’s impact in the relevant sales role. Jake has also worked on the procurement side of infrastructure contracts and was involved with in a recent fleet renewal. Alongside ergonomic performance, finance, and whole-of-life operational performance, Jake shared responsibility for reviewing the fleet’s carbon impact, and has driven Haulaway’s other social and sustainability initiatives, including a client-facing program which focuses on the NABERS ratings.

As a demonstrable metric of Jake’s client success, external ratings with partners continue to rise and client satisfaction has reached its highest-ever level.

Our judges noted Jake’s “meteoric rise” while introducing new technology and processes, and praised his impact on the business’ growth and diversification.
