WORKSHOP 1: Landfill Gas Management 101

 8:45am -   5:00pm

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with a sound understanding of landfill gas (generation, movement / emissions, hazards / risks, management, and monitoring), to help you improve the management of landfill gas at your site, whether closed or operational.

You will learn how to assess landfill gas generation, the risks presented by landfill gas, and how to go about developing and implementing an appropriate gas management system / measures.

The workshop will be chaired by Dr Stuart Dever (UNSW) and include presentations by Matt Welsh (GHD), Stuart Thurlow & Nick Simmons (Australian Environmental Auditors) Elisa De Wit (Norton Rose Fulbright), Jarryd Doran and Sean Trainor (Landfill Gas Industries).

 WORKSHOP 2: Landfill Airspace Optimisation

12:00pm -   5:00pm

Landfill airspace is a rapidly diminishing commodity which has risen in value significantly over the last few years. With that in mind this workshop will provide participants with information on how to optimise the value of remaining landfill airspace.

The workshop will be chaired by Cleanaway's NSW Landfill Manager, John Jones, and include:

  • Best practice techniques for delivering optimised waste placement and compaction.
  • Novel engineering approaches to increasing remaining landfill airspace.
  • Presentations from equipment suppliers including CAT and Bomag on innovation in compaction machinery, choice, and selection.
  • Latest state of the art machine control system technologies available.
